Your Interests & Protect Your
Rights
When a juvenile is charged with a delinquent act, (i.e. unruly or criminal behavior), the juvenile will be brought before a Magistrate or Judge at the Juvenile Court for proceedings to ultimately determine the “responsibility” of the juvenile for the act alleged. “Responsibility” in juvenile court is analogous to “guilt” in adult court. The Juvenile Court has its own unique system for juveniles accused of criminal behavior, and attempts to focus on the rehabilitation of the juvenile, rather than punishment.
That doesn’t mean, however, that there are not severe consequences that could enormously impact the young life of a juvenile, and most importantly, nor does it mean that a juvenile isn’t entitled or doesn’t deserve the same aggressive defense of his or her rights when accused of a crime. If you have a child who is accused of a crime, ensure that they are given the same aggressive representation you would want for yourself.
